Are you teaching character traits to social skills groups? Are your students expected to understand character traits and use it to describe characters in texts they read for class and state tests? Then this activity pack is for you!
In this file:
-Sort character traits into “good” and “bad” categories. Graphic organizer provided to have students write down their responses. 2 levels provided for differentiated instruction.
-Common Characters and their Traits: Print and laminate the board with all of the common characters. Have students sort the traits to the characters that are associated best with them. Worksheet is provided to document responses.
-Reading Comprehension Game: Students will pick a card and determine the character trait to best describe the character in the passage read. Once they respond correctly, they can hold onto their card. If they pick the “go to jail” card, they lose a turn! The student with the most cards at the end of the game is the winner!
-Review worksheets: One worksheet will allow students to match the common characters to the character trait that can best describe them. The other worksheet contains passages provided for practice determining character traits based on passages read.
This activity meets the common core standard:
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.3.3 Describe characters in a story (e.g., their traits, motivations, or feelings) and explain how their actions contribute to the sequence of events

What a great lesson for Social Skills! It looks like something some of my students would have fun with, too!
