What Is The Text Structure? Toolbox! QR Code Fun!

I have been doing a lot of learning this summer on ways to help my students comprehend the "whole message" of passages heard.  I have been trying to think of new ways to help them in a different way than the classroom teachers, hey we are SLPs not tutors!  I have been learning a lot about text structure and teaching students to distinguish between the structure of the text will help them understand the overall message/main idea.  Authors often use key words which can help students identify the text structure.  Since I am on a QR code activity kick....why not create one to work on this skill?!

Work on identifying text structure to comprehend the meaning of a text heard or read.

Text structures included: sequence, cause/effect, problem/solution, and compare/contrast.

Students will practice reading/listening to a passage and expressing the text structure used.  They can check their work using the QR code provided on the card.

Use with any QR scanning app on your device (iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch).  I suggest the ‘Scan’ app for the iPad.

What does this activity include?
-visual aid

-graphic organizer

-QR code card game.  Watch out for the "lose a turn" cards!  The student with the most cards at the end of the game is the winner!

I provided a game mat.  You can place the pile of cards on the mat.  This just helps prevent one student trying to take over and constantly grab the pile of cards!   Now they can keep them here!

-Review worksheet
