Storybook Apps for Speech: Part 2

Since my first "episode" of my storybook app series was such a hit, more developers have offered to assist me with my next one!  This time I will be featuring two storybook apps from the developer See Here Studios.  They were generous to provide me with codes for 2 of their apps and 3 codes of each to giveaway!!
First up: The Tortoise and the Hare Rematch!  This is an adorable story that was developed based on what happened after the classic race.  This app is told using a voice that speaks at a great pace for students.  You can use it after reading the classic version.  Students will have a great time learning how the hare won't give up until he can beat the tortoise!

Goals you can address:
  • Compare/contrast: compare characters, versions of story, and the 3 races
  • sequencing and recall: can students recall how the 3 races end?
  • /r/ auditory bombardment and production at all levels
  • understanding morals/lessons
  • understanding character traits and adjectives
  • understanding hare/rabbit and tortoise/turtle vocabulary
  • homophones hair and hare
  • cause/effect
  • responding to various wh- questions
  • comparatives and superlatives
Learn more about this app at iTunes.  Visit the developers website for more information and freebies here!

Next up, The Wrong Side of the Bed storybook app!

This adorable app is available in 2D or 3D.  They also instruct to flip the iPad over to see what it was like for Mott, the character in the story.  Mott wakes up on the wrong side of the bed and his whole world is turned upside down!  Yes, that has both meanings: he is walking around on the ceiling but also a mess and confused!  Your students will giggle as they read or listen to this silly story!  How many things can they turn upside down?!
What skills can you address:
  • opposite vocabulary
  • sequencing and recall of events
  • cause/effect: what caused this to happen?
  • predicting and drawing conclusions
  • spatial concepts
  • role playing: can you pretend you are looking at everything upside down?
  • responding to wh- questions
  • compare/contrast: Mott at beginning vs. end of story
  • following directions: listen and follow what they should turn upside down

  3. I wish that the hare has a chance to win too for his perseverance.

  4. I frequently find my husband on the wrong side of the bed... My side, which quite figuratively wakes me up on the wrong side of the bed! Just a few days ago I told him about this and his response was, "I was not hogging the bed! I could see the floor!!" mmhmm... My side of the floor!

  5. The tortoise of course. Taking your time and having patience may not always win the race, but you certainly feel better crossing the finish line.

  6. Definitely the tortoise. It's going to really mess up my world if the hare starts winning! :)

  7. If I happen to wake up on the wrong side of the bed, whether literally or figuratively, I usually give in and just go back to sleep & hope for a better outcome the next time around!

  8. The slow and methodical tortoise ofcourse. As for waking up on the wrong side of the bed, anytime waking up before 5am is waking up on the wrong side!

As an aside - I have been entering these giveaways and even had the opportunity for some feee code giveaways, but am new to the whole ipad and code thing? How do you use the codes to get apps? Someone please HELP - I lost out on a free code giveaway because I didn't know what to do with/how to use the code. Thx!

    1. I will post this response on facebook as well - it is a very common question! All you have to do is copy and paste the code into the app store on your ipad or in itunes. If on the ipad if you click "purchased" and scroll to bottom, the middle button says "redeem." You click that and paste the code into there. It will prompt you to use your password then it will automatically download. If you do it on itunes you need to then make sure it downloads onto your device by going into itunes and click purchased "not on this device" and click download from list of apps not downloaded on the device. I hope this helps!!! Email me if you have more questions!
