-Fact or Inference Coloring: Provide each student with a coloring page. Provide each student with two crayons, green and yellow. As you/your students read each sentence card provided, they will have to determine if it is a fact or an inference. Then they will have to color the coloring page accordingly.
-Story Clue vs. Experience Clue Visual
-Story Clue or Experience Clue Coloring: Provide each student with a coloring page. Provide each student with two crayons, blue and red. As you/your students read each sentence card provided, they will have to determine if it is a story clue or an experience clue. Then they will have to color the coloring page accordingly.
-What Is In My Backpack?: Print and laminate the backpack page. Print and laminate the object cards. Print the clue cards. Read each clue to your students. They must use their inferencing skills to guess what objects you are talking about. Once students guess the object, you can give it to them to place “in” the backpack. You can also decide to provide all objects on the table for students to see. This may help them determine which object is being described. You can also give two choices when students are demonstrating difficulties with this activity.
-Inferring A Picture: A worksheet is provided with an image. Students will be prompted to write facts (actual things they see/notice) and inferences (using their clues/facts and own knowledge, what can they tell about the image). Encourage the students to use the inferencing words/phrases to respond.
-Inferencing Card Game: Students will select a card and read (or listen to) to the paragraph. They must use their knowledge of facts, clues, and inferences to answer two questions provided. Can they determine which probed for facts and which probes for an inference? Each card has a point value (1-4). At the end of the game, students can add up their points to determine a winner.
