Classifying & Describing Fishing Fun!

Are you looking for materials that are interactive and can keep your student engaged?!  How about activities that allow them to stand up and move around (although it can be achieved sitting at a table as well!).  This activity is for you!  This activity is great for groups with students with a variety of goals.  You can take this one activity and expand it for those students capable of more complex vocabulary tasks.

Using this activity:

-Give each student a fish bowl.

-Print and laminate the fish.  You can add a magnet to the back (or even a paper clip) and use a magnetic fishing pole.  There are also magnetic fishing poles available.  Click links below to learn more on how to grab one for yourself!

-Place all fish in the center or on the floor.  Students can pick a fish or use the fishing pole to “catch” a fish.  Students must use the classifying prompts visual provided in order to put the fish into their fish bowl.

-If students “catch” the “bonus turn” fish, they can get an extra turn.  The student with the  most fish in their fish bowl at the end of the game is the winner!

-Classifying prompts visual is provided!  Sentence strips provided as well.

-Category, function, and description sorting cards are provided to use with the fish as well.


-Review worksheets are provided!
