Halloween Sensory Bin for Under $5! (a fun, cheap, and easy DIY idea!)

I was recently browsing the Target Dollar Spot and checking out all of the awesome Halloween goodies.  An idea popped into my head when I saw some of the items, a Halloween sensory bin!

I grabbed some fun Halloween items (with all different colors, shapes, and textures) and then headed over to the grocery section of Target and found a cheap package of beans.  I also found a plastic bin on sale (if I didn't find one, I would have went to the Dollar store afterwards but I was pleasantly surprised with the cheap bin I found!  My goal was a bin that would close to not attract bugs into my speech room!)

I found a plastic spoon in my house which completed my sensory bin!  All that was left, a visual aid!

Now, my students can use their hands or the spoon to search for the different Halloween items.  What goals do I plan to address?

  • following directions
  • describing
  • answering questions
  • expressing complete utterances
  • pretend play
  • turn taking
  • prepositions
  • and so much more!

Do you have a sensory bin in your therapy room?  How do you use it?
